On Thursday April 20, 2006 the Fullerton Guitar Orchestra under the baton of David Grimes gave a standout performance at the Monterey Peninsula College Choral room. Playing to a standing room only audience, the highly polished university students played a diverse and intriguing program that brought out the best in the players and fully exploited the resources of the classical guitar.

Other than Bach's Cantata and "Where Sheep May Safely Graze" (see Program) all the music on the program was original works written for guitar orchestra. That in itself is a feat and speaks volumes for the Director David Grimes, head of the guitar department at California State Fullerton. Over the years he has been able to cajole and induce a myriad of composers to put their best thoughts to compositions for the orchestra. The outcome was our delight!

An addition to the program was the group "Triad", three brothers from Bulgaria. It has been said that the best guitar duos (we'll also include the Romeros) are those bound by blood or marriage. It would be very hard to find three who can play as well together as this group.

If you ever have a chance to hear the orchestra, don't miss them. You will hear music unique in concept and design and played to the highest caliber. The enthusiastic audience responded with two standing ovations. Now that the society has heard Andrew York's "Attica" we will finally muster up the courage to wood shed it in our ensemble group.
